Step one: Position your curtain pole
We would always recommend that you secure your curtain pole or track in place, ahead of measuring your curtains for the best results.
For a standard window, it’s recommended that your curtain pole or track overhang the width of the window. Try to make sure that there is a minimum of 15 cm left each side of the pole or track and that it is fixed 8 cm above the top of the window soffit. If you haven’t got a curtain pole or track yet, use a pencil to mark on the wall where it will sit to make sure your measurements are accurate.
Step two: Measure the width of your curtains
Now it’s time to measure the width for your made to measure Morris & Co. curtains. For a curtain pole, measure from one end to the other, but stop before the end finials. If you have a track, measure the full length from one end to the other.
Step three: Measure the length of your curtains
How do you envision your sumptuous curtains sitting in the window? Do they delicately dust the windowsill or drape all the way to the floor? This will determine the length of your made to measure curtains.
At this stage, it’s also important to choose which heading will work best for your home. Choose from a pencil pleat, pinch pleat, double pleat, eyelet or wave heading for the ultimate elevation to your high-quality curtains.
For eyelet curtains, measure the full length of your curtains - from top to your desired finish - and then add 3.5 cm to the measurement. For all other headings, simply measure from the top of the curtain pole to the desired length. That’s your finished length.
Expert tip: Take a moment to measure from the top of the curtain pole to your sill or the floor in three different places, just in case it's uneven in certain places.
